Kyocera Corporation (京セラ株式会社, Kyōsera Kabushiki-gaisha) was founded in1959 by Kazuo Inamori and renamed in 1982. The company has diversified its founding technology in ceramic materials through internal development as well as strategic mergers and acquisitions. It manufactures industrial ceramics, solar power generating systems, telecommunications equipment, office document imaging equipment, electronic components, semiconductor packages, cutting tools, and components for medical and dental implant systems.
In the mid-1970s, Kyocera began expanding its material technologies to produce a diverse range of applied ceramic products, including solar photovoltaic modules; biocompatible tooth- and joint-replacement systems; industrial cutting tools; consumer ceramics, such as ceramic-bladed kitchen knives and ceramic-tipped ballpoint pens; and lab-grown gemstones, including rubies, emeralds, sapphires, opals, alexandrites and padparadschahs.
Today, Kyocera Corporation with headquarteres in Kyoto, is one of the world’s leading manufacturer of fine ceramic components for the technology industry. Strategically important business areas of the 286 subsidiaries Kyocera group for information and communication technology, products for enhancing the quality of life as well as environmentally compatible products.
With around 77.000 employees, KYOCERA managed in the 2018/2019 financial year, a net annual turnover of around € 13 billion. In Europe, the company group sell the printing and digital copying systems, semiconductors, fine ceramic, automotive and electronic components, as well as printing heads and ceramic kitchen products. Kyocera is represented in Germany with five independent companies: the Kyocera Fineceramics GmbH in Neuss and Esslingen, the Kyocera Fineceramics Precision GmbH in Selb, the Kyocera Automotive and Industrial Solutions GmbH in Dietzenbach, the Kyocera Document Solutions in Meerbusch as well as the KYOCERA Fineceramics Solutions GmbH in Mannheim.
Established in April 2014, KYOCERA Precision Tools (KPT) is a division of the Kyocera-SGS Precision Tools Group specializing in the manufacturing, servicing, and marketing of Indexable Cutting Tools and Printed Circuit Board (PCB) drills. KPTI unifies two of the world’s leading cutting tool manufacturers, Kyocera Tycom Corporation (KTC) and the Cutting Tool Division of Kyocera Industrial Ceramics Corporation (KICC-CT). The creation of KPTI establishes a combined enterprise that optimizes the strengths of both organizations and facilitates expansion of Kyocera’s overall cutting tool-related business.
The new combined entity unifies cutting tool resources to create greater efficiencies while positioning the new organization for continued success. Customers benefit from a unified sales and support team offering excellent service and an expanded portfolio of cutting tool products and solutions for the automotive, aerospace, general machining, medical, power generation, printed circuit board and steel markets.
